Prime Minister Mark Carney has called urgent national byelections for three Canadian seats. Voters in Brantford-Brant, Ontario; Châteauguay-Lacolle, Quebec; and Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke, British Columbia will vote on August 31. Campaigning is now under way, with political sides selecting candidates and finalising strategies. The Conservatives have vowed to demand federal probes on two top matters: construction oversight of the Gordie Howe bridge and Washington’s proposed tariff measures.
