A federal appeals court has halted the execution of Christa Pike, Tennessee's first woman to be executed in 200 years. The pause occurred one hour before the scheduled execution. Pike was convicted of murder in 1991 and has been on death row since then. The decision comes as a shock to many, given the rarity of such decisions in the execution process.
