Menzies collapsed on stage as the contest was under way. Medical staff came to help straight away. He pulled out not long after. Smith finished the tie cleanly. The game showed up in the main TV slot. The match went out at the evening window, drawing a wide crowd to the well-known Winter Gardens. Smith kept his composure throughout, and the result sent him through to the next round. No additional problems surfaced. The atmosphere was a split between worry and clapping as the Scotsman was helped to the medical room.
